Female mosquitos require a blood feeding to produce eggs.  While feeding, mosquitos can transmit a number of disease causing organisms to humans and animals.

Larvae and pupae are aquatic, they live in water, usually still water, such as flower pots, birdbaths, fountains, etc.  Adults live in vegetation near water or cool damp places.
